New Engagement Committee hosts monthly webinars starting November 6

The IAUC is looking forward to engage with you and continue the Urban Climate dialogue despite the ongoing global pandemic. We have formed an Engagement Committee with a plan for virtual activities in the absence of face-to-face events in 2020-2021. As part of this effort, we are initiating monthly virtual webinars that include presentations and discussions.

We are very pleased to invite you to the historic, first IAUC webinar 6 November that will celebrate our very own Luke Howard Award winners: Janet Barlow (2019 winner) and Alberto Martilli (2020 winner).

Date and time: 6 November 11:00 – 12:15 UTC, which is 6:00 New York (EST), 12:00 in Paris (CET), 16:30 in Dehli (IST), 19:00 in Beijing (CST), and 22:00 in Sydney (AEDT).

ICUC-9 Special Issue in Urban Climate now available

The 9th International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC-9), held in July2015 in Toulouse, France, provided a recent forum for urban climate scientists to share the results of their research. This special issue presents 20 original research papers, representative of the variety of the themes encompassed by the urban climate community.

Call for Participants in HUMINEX 2.0 Study

The HUMan INfluence EXperiment (HUMINEX) is happy to launch an open call for participants for its HUMINEX 2.0 study.
Central aim of HUMINEX is the evaluation of the human influence on the supervised Local Climate Zone classification employed in the WUDAPT initiative (http://www.wudapt.org/).
Details and results of the first phase of HUMINEX are published in an open access publication by Benjamin Bechtel et al. (http://www.mdpi.com/2413-8851/1/2/15), also featured in the June 2017 newsletter of the International Association for Urban Climate: http://urban-climate.org/newsletters/IAUC064.pdf.
HUMINEX 2.0 continues this work with an advanced experiment setup, focusing on the city of Berlin, Germany. The experiment is open to everyone, from individuals to university courses.
At the moment already close to 100 contributions to HUMINEX 2.0 have been made, but we are still searching for participants.

Summer in the City Climate Videos Released by WMO

WMO in partnership with Climate Central launched a new series of a dozen videos on “Summer in the City” contributed by weather presenters.  The videos will be subtitled in English, French, and Spanish. They each conclude with an encouraging statement by Miguel Mancera, Mayor of Mexico City and Vice Chair of C40 Cities for Latin America.

Urban Meteorology Course 28 Aug – 8 Sep 2017 Malaysia

This training course will cover all aspects of urban meteorology, environment (including air quality) and climate. By the end of the course participants will be able to critique siting of instrumentation in urban areas, undertake modelling of urban areas and know how to deliver climate services in urban areas.

Detailed Description

This course is part of the WMO education and training programme.

All participants are required to register to apply for a place on the course.  This is done by completing a purchase (FREE OF CHARGE) on this system (see link below).   Following registration, participants will be sent an application form by email which should be returned no later than 14 July.  The number of spaces on the course is limited to 25 participants. The local cost of the training course is 450 GBP (578 CHF) which will cover course fees, accommodation, breakfast and lunch.
