Postdoctoral Researcher: Urban Climate Modelling, NUS

July 20, 2018 in Positions, Student_Positions

The Urban Climate Lab (https://www.nusurbanclimate.com/) in the Department of Geography (http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/geog/) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a highly motivated and independent postdoctoral researcher. We are seeking to strengthen our numerical modeling capabilities to complement current work in experimental urban climate research. The selected person will primarily provide expertise in validating and developing existing urban climate models, though opportunities exist to also participate in experimental field campaigns.

The models considered include the meso-scale urban parameterization scheme WRF, LES model PALM, energy balance scheme LUMPS, outdoor thermal comfort models such as ENVI-met, SOLWEIG and SkyHelios, or fine-scaled process-based urban energy balanced models like TUF3D that have not been tested or applied in densely populated cities in Asia. One possibility is that the successful applicant leads a systematic model comparison study to evaluate the applicability and fitness of models in the tropical context.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in a related field, relevant modeling experience, ability to work with large data sets, and excellent technical, organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, to disseminate key results to the academic community and publish novel research work.

The position is approved and upon satisfactory performance available until March 2021. To apply, please send a 1-page cover letter, full CV including names and contact information of three references via email to Dr Matthias Roth (geomr@nus.edu.sg; http://profile.nus.edu.sg/fass/geomr/stf_geomr.htm) who can also be approached for informal information. Applications completed before 15 September 2018 will receive primary consideration. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate has been selected.
